Bio

Ed Hurtado was named the new head baseball coach at Mt. San Jacinto College prior to the start of the 2026 season after serving four seasons as an assistant.

In his first season at the helm Hurtado guided the Eagles to a postseason appearance and a third-place finish in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference. The team finished 22-20 overall and 15-9 in IEAC games.

As an Eagle assistant Hurtado oversaw the program’s, strength and conditioning, cognitive skills training, and the development of pitchers and outfielders. During that time Hurtado helped numerous players earn All-Conference recognition, including an Inland Empire Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year. Many of those players along with several others have moved on to the four-year level with scholarships. Prior to his time at MSJC Hurtado has coaching experience at both the high school and club level. He spent three years as an assistant at Murrieta Mesa High School and two years at Paloma Valley.

Hurtado is a graduate of Corona High where he was a standout baseball player. He would go on to play at Riverside Community College for Hall of Fame coach Dennis Rodgers before transferring to UC-Riverside where he played for another Hall of Fame coach in Jack Smitherman to complete his college playing career. Hurtado was drafted by the Anaheim Angels in the 20^th round of the 1998 MLB draft and spent two years in the organization.

Following his time in professional baseball Hurtado spent sixteen years in law enforcement, two years with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and the next fourteen years as an officer for the City of Corona Police Department.

During his time in both law enforcement and coaching Hurtado saw the growing need for mental performance consulting and the benefits it provides. Through both group and one-on-one presentations dealing with assorted topics including stress and anxiety management, emotional regulation, goal setting, and self-awareness he went on to co-found Quest Mental Performance LLC.

Hurtado enjoys spending time away from the field with his family. He and his wife Danielle have three children: BreAnna, Jordan, and Derek, as well as two grandchildren Raegan and Jameson.
