The MSJC men's basketball team split a pair of contests last week at the RCC Hypland Classic in Riverside.
The Eagles started the event on Wednesday with a tough loss against Ventura as MSJC could not hold on to a double-digit lead in the second half and fell to the Pirates 84-78. The Eagles held a 10-point lead with just 6:17 remaining but ten unanswered points by the Pirates evened the game up and with just 1:40 to play Ventura finally took the lead 76-75 and MSJC could never regain it. Adrian Mosley had a double double for the Eagles with 19 points and 11 rebounds, he also added 5 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals. Willie Miller, making his first start of the season, also scored 19 for MSJC while Tyler Frazier-Mathews added 16.
Thursday the Eagles bounced back to claim victory over the host team as they defeated Riverside 71-65. MSJC trailed by two at the half but seized control of the game midway through the second half to earn the victory. RJ Dawson led the offense with a team high 20 points while Mosley had 12 points and a team high 8 rebounds. Frazier-Mathews added 9 points and 3 blocks while Stephen Castleberry had 8 points off the bench.
MSJC is now 7-3 on the season and will host a pair of games this week when they play San Diego Mesa Wednesday night at 7 pm and begin Inland Empire Athletic Conference play against Chaffey Saturday at 3 pm.
